Resorts are not for us

The boys have to return to Calgary tonight and Liz has to bus it to the small town of La Manzanilla early tomorrow morning so we decided the best thing to do was stay in a hotel we are familiar with and is close to the airport. the hotel has a pool so we can all relax before we go our separate ways. We all decided that even though the pool was nice for a dip the lack of Mexicans was disturbing and the scheduled activities and all inclusive culture was just not our idea of a holiday in Mexico. It all felt very sterile, overpriced and fake to us and we would way prefer to stay with the people even if it means a dusty walk home to our casita every night.

After saying a sad goodbye to my boys I met up with neighbours from Calgary- Stan and Marion. They live in Mexico 6 months of the year and were happy to get together for dinner to keep me company. We ate the most delicious dinner at Gaby's restaurant just off the malecon near old town. I ate something new I have never even heard of -Nogala style chile stuffed with ground beef and smothered in a nutty, creamy sauce and sprinkled with pomegranate seeds. It was amazing and a dish I hope to find again.
We were entertained by images of Mexican concerts on the wall across the street and had a lovely time catching up and toasting to the fact that we were all smart enough to leave Calgary winters- even if it was just a short time for me. I'm not looking forward to a night alone in the hotel without my family but it will be a short sleep and a long bus ride  tomorrow to visit Sam ( Sandra) in La Manzanilla.
