We walk by this house every day but the sign suddenly caught my attention.
Today was the day for our boys to try surfing. As you will see by the transition of the photos, they took to it right away! Several people around us on the beach were watching them as well and commented on how easily they picked it up. Must be all that skateboard experience or perhaps the naturally athletic genes we have passed on to them! Those genes are worn out on us.
This trio noisily made their way up and down the beach entertaining us all. It's cute for about the first 5 minutes.
This fellow foisted himself upon us as we were happily reading and enjoying a beer on the beach. He spoke perfect English and was slightly tipsy when he offered Remy a 15 minute foot massage for $5. He made us laugh so we agreed. Despite his effeminate mannerism and the fact that he voluntarily put Remy's filthy, unmanicured foot in his mouth while sitting between his legs, Remy couldn't believe I thought this guy was gay. Mmmmmm.... aren't you a detective?
The packing and unpacking of surfboards everyday is a chore shared by many along this beautiful beach. We've had the chance to explore several other beaches in this area and the surf in Sayulita really is unique. We love the whole culture even if it's not something we'll probably ever get very good at. The level of fitness of the really good guys is amazing and watching them play beach volleyball during happy hour has become a most pleasurable part of my day!
Bowen and Hollis have become quite comfortable in this town and often go off on their own to explore, shop or hit the internet cafe. I'm sure copious amounts of candy, soda and doughnuts are consumed while not under our watch as well. Hollis was walking around with Remy's homemade sling spear when he was approached by a waiter at Leyla restaurant at the town plaza. The waiter was very interested in buying the thing and the boys were very excited to come to the beach to tell us all about it. 2 days later we met up with the waiter again and instead of selling him the spear we traded him for dinner and a few shots of tequila. We thought that would make a much better story than just taking money for it- tastier too!
Jorge lives north of Sayulita- near Mazatlan and likes to fish in the mangroves. His new slingspear will make that job even easier now plus all his buddies will be jealous that he has such a cool, unique tool made in Canada! He promises to take us fishing if we ever make it back to this area again. I'm sure that won't be too hard to organize.
